Brentwood opts out of McKnight Road study; Richmond Heights plans improvements for the road

The Brentwood Board of Aldermen voted 6-2 on Monday against working with Ladue in a study of ways to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety on McKnight Road between Litzsinger Road and Highway 40, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch has reported.

Brentwood borders the east side of the road and Ladue is the west. The plan was for the cities to split the $19,700 cost for the study by CBB Transportation Engineering Planners. At the meeting the aldermen expressed concern that the study would reflect Ladue’s concerns and not theirs.

Aldermen Tom Kramer and Steve Lochmoeller were the two ‘yes’ votes. Kramer said going in with Ladue wouldn’t compel a specific decision, the Post-Dispatch reported.

At the Richmond Heights town hall meeting, which followed the city council meeting Monday at The Heights, Mayor Jim Thomson said improvements are to include a sidewalk on one side of McKnight Road from Highway 40 to Clayton Road. It’s not determined which side of the street the sidewalk will be on.

Thomson said it’s being paid for with a federal grant. The design work is planned for 2019, obtaining the right of way and easements in 2020, and construction in 2021.

  1. Unfortunately, the traffic on the Ladue-side of McKnight carrying heavy trucks to Rock Hill stores like Lucky’s is having a negative impact to the Brentwood neighborhoods. There is little-to-no enforcement of the laws that govern traffic on the west (ladue) side of the street. I can see why Brentwood was reluctant to participate.
