A man is facing charges after an officer officer-involved shooting Tuesday night in Brentwood. The suspect, Trey Cockrell, 24, of St. Louis, fired toward Brentwood Police Officer Joshua Bowersox, according to court records. Bowersox was not struck; neither were other officers on the scene from Brentwood and Richmond Heights.
Cockrell was in a car at the Drury Inn parking lot at approximately 11:45 p.m. Tuesday when Brentwood officers ran the plate and found it was wanted for a traffic offense. When they approached Cockrell got out and ran toward a wooded area, and then Black Creek between Drury Inn and Target. As he ran he fired towards the officers; they didn’t fire back at the time.
He continued firing when he reached the creek and at that point the officers fired back and struck him.
Cockrell was taken to a hospital and went into surgery early Wednesday. In all, three officers fired shots at Cockrell, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
Cockrell was charged with felony counts of assault on a law enforcement officer and other charges.
