The St. Louis County Parks Department was formed in 1950 with only two parks.  Now there are 71 parks covering over 12,000 acres.  They range from neighborhood playgrounds to areas larger than Forest Park and include historic buildings ranging from pioneer structures of the early 19th century to a house by Frank Lloyd Wright and cultural institutions such as Laumeier Sculpture Park, the Museum of Transportation, and the Butterfly House.

Our speaker, Esley Hamilton, has been preservation historian for County Parks since 1977 and is the author of various books and publications.
