St. Louis Post-Dispatch food writer Ian Froeb recently listed his top 100 St. Louis restaurants—Ian Froeb’s STL100.
Our area claims six of the 100: two in Brentwood, one in Maplewood, three in Richmond Heights (or very close) and one in St. Louis City (near Maplewood and co-owned by a Brentwood native). Two made the ‘Top 25’: Acero came in at #9 and Mai Lee at #21.
After that he listed the ‘Rest of the Best’, which includes Basso, Fozzie’s Sandwich Emporium, Joy Luck Buffet, Restaurant at the Cheshire and Southwest Diner.
Froeb calls the list ‘egalitarian.’ He says while the top restaurants are expensive, most in the 100 are not. Newer restaurants were looked at as critically as older ones, and staying in business a long time was no guarantee of making the list.

The Joy Luck Buffet was on there too.
Thanks, Jane – Joy Luck Buffet has been added.
It’s worth noting that Jim Fiala, owner of Acero, scored two in the Top 10 with his other restaurant, The Crossing, coming in at #6.
Excellent choices; congrats to all. Each a big piece of what makes our town a great place.
