In 1876 the citizens of St. Louis made a momentous vote. They approved a measure to separate the City of St. Louis from St. Louis County, an action that greatly influenced the region’s development. This presentation explores the who, what, why, and where that motivated voters to adopt this far-reaching piece of legislation. This is a topic very much in the news today. Christopher Alan Gordon, Director of Library and Collections for the Missouri History Museum, will present the history of this very important issue.
