Saturday around noon, a 90-year-old woman (per police report) made a right turn from Marshall Avenue onto eastbound Manchester, missed a parked car, and swerved onto the sidewalk in front of Foundation Grounds, according to a witness who was driving two cars behind the car as reported to 40 South.
The description of the accident: “There were a lot of people sitting outside and a bunch of them had to jump out of the way. She flattened a street sign, one of those things that is shaped like the Arch, plowed/sideswiped into the building. I think that there was a hole in the side of the building. It all happened so fast!”
The photographer said no one was hurt.
Maplewood Police report: On 9/7/2019 at approximately 11:51 a.m. a 90-year-old female driving eastbound on Manchester after turning from Marshall struck a bike rack, a parking sign, two planters, and ran into two buildings. Damage to the buildings was minor. There were no injuries, and no criminal charges.
That seems pretty amazing to me that no one was hurt. Or that her car even made it onto the sidewalk and into the building. Often when I go by there there are several tables with people, certainly not every table is filled but there are often cars parked along the street in front of the buildings. I would have thought she would have hit a parked car before she ever did the building.
