Deer Creek McDonald’s to be demolished; no plans to rebuild

The Deer Creek McDonald’s is due to be demolished, Mara Perry, Webster Groves director of planning and zoning said Wednesday.

Perry said the city has received calls from a demolition contractor McDonald’s uses  to demolish “excess properties,” and that the McDonald’s by Deer Creek Center is on the list. She said she has also spoken to McDonald’s representatives, “going up the ladder,” about the work. A permit to demolish hasn’t been finalized, she said.

Update: The McDonald’s was demolished on Monday.

The location is partially in Webster Groves and partially in Maplewood. The property is registered in Webster Groves.

McDonald’s has no plans to rebuild or sell at the location, Perry said. A local McDonald’s representative so far hasn’t returned a request for comment.

The store was closed on short notice last July. McDonald’s representatives met with residents in December about a proposed new location at Manchester and Big Bend, which didn’t go well for McDonald’s, and so far the corporation hasn’t been on a Maplewood planning and zoning agenda.

Workers were on the site Wednesday afternoon disconnecting the water and sewer utilities in preparation for the demolition.

  1. Is there any update on McDonald’s pursuit of the property where Schaefer’s service station is currently located? I wonder if they have looked into the land on the NW corner of Manchester and Hanley. There’s much more space to accommodate the traffic than there is at the corner of Big Bend and Manchester.

    • @Tamara, I can’t see McD’s building another store along that corridor less than a mile from the one in Brentwood at highway 40.
