Retired Brentwood assistant fire chief dies

Retired Brentwood Assistant Fire Chief Joseph A. Bratcher died Monday, August 17, the Brentwood Fire Department has announced.

Assistant Chief Bratcher served the Brentwood Fire Department for 34 years, retiring in 2000.

A relative, Mary Ann Merz, said that Assistant Chief Bratcher blew the horn of the fire truck every time he pulled out of the firehouse to tell his wife, Shirley, he loved her. They lived nearby. Merz also said Bratcher had a joke for everything, a trait that was passed on to their children.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 21 at 9:15 a.m. at Kutis Funeral Home, Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois Road, departing for a 10 a.m. mass at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. Interment at Polk Cemetery, Ellington, MO. See full obituary at Kutis Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 20 from 3 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Kutis Funeral Home.

Memorials requested to Salvation Army or St. Vincent DePaul Society.
