QuikTrip negotiating old spot with new owner

The former QuikTrip location in Maplewood is under negotiation for a new owner and a new use, according to St. Louis QuikTrip real estate manager Alan Renner.

QuikTrip was given a one-year deadline, according to Renner, to sublease the old spot at Big Bend and Flora, or tear it down to make green space.

Renner said Monday the deadline was “under the assumption that QuikTrip would own the location,” which they don’t. “We tried to negotiate with the owner of the grounds, to buy it back, but we never got anywhere with them.” Quiktrip’s lease with the original owner went until 2019.

He said just recently though, the ground has been bought  by a new owner, and he is currently negotiating the lease.

“So they’re supposedly going to be doing something with the building — what it is, I don’t know,” he said.

Renner said the new location, at Big Bend and Manchester is doing “very, very well — much better than the old store did. Anytime you put it at a major intersection like that it’s obviously going to do better.”

He said the new location in Richmond Heights, on Hanley Road, continues to grow. “We project it will be doing the numbers we anticipated in the next year.”

The Menards store, just south of that QuikTrip, is aiming to open March 1.

  1. Keep us posted! I’m sure the skateboarders will morn the loss of their impromptu skate park but I imagine the folks on Flora are ready for something to occupy the space. I know I am and would prefer a green space but that doesn’t appear like an option at this point 🙁

ALMOST anything would be better than driving by this depressing shell of a building every day on my way home from work! Also why are they wasting energy leaving the interior lights on 24/7? The windows are basically blacked out so I can’t imagine it is for security reasons.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas or Holiday! Let’s make Maplewood even better in 2016!

    Cheers,
    Nick
