  1. Isaac, during a conversation about Woodside, once told me, “These places are assets not liabilities.” I know he meant it. He contributed 15,000 dollars to the first restoration effort of Woodside, more than any other donor. The story was the same with the Maplewood community history book. He was the largest single donor on that project as well. I agree with Tom Bakersmith, most of us will never know how much Isaac Young did to promote and improve Maplewood. And this is as good a place to say this as any, the same is true of Tom Bakersmith. I have gotten to know Tom through our shared interest in the history of our town. There just isn’t a finer gentleman. I have a tremendous amount of respect for and admiration of him. Maplewood has been greatly improved by the efforts of these two fine fellows.

  2. Isaac Young was a well-respected member of the Maplewood community, and was a good friend of my parents. He loved to travel, and I remember his speaking with them about a trip he took to Africa.

  3. I apologize – Mr. Young’s first name – Isaac – was originally misspelled in the headline. It is correct now.
