Blocked heater vent brings firefighters to Commonwealth Avenue

A blocked water heater vent caused a piece of paper on top to burn, according to the Maplewood Fire Department commanding officer at the scene Tuesday around 11 p.m. The home owner, in the the 3600 block of Commonwealth Avenue, called the fire department when he smelled smoke.

There were no injuries to the couple and their 6-month-old child who live in the house, and no serious damage to the home. Two dogs were also OK.

  1. Doug – it would be interesting to see what the response time was and how many ‘nearby’ trucks responded. Curious with all the bruhaha in Brentwood and the dispatch situation… Here’s hoping they figure out what is best for them. I live in Maplewood and have always seen quick and multiple responses, never really thought twice about our dispatch having been contracted out.

    • The response time was less then 5 minutes. Their was an engine from Shrewsbury, an engine and ambulance from Maplewood and a police officer from Maplewood. Also the non emergency number was called.
