Editor: Maplewood police assisted the fire department, and recorded the incident as an “unfounded matter.” They say it may have been a noise from a train.

Fire Chief Terry Merrell said he has lived near the railroad tracks for nearly 20 years and heard similar sounds on many occasions. He said he didn’t give it a second thought until the 911 call came in, he said in an email to 40 South News.

  1. I live in Affton and we heard a loud boom also but it was in the evening after 7 or 8 pm. Could this be related?
    PS: I love your articles. I miss our South County Patch.
