An owner of Scheidt True Value Hardware, George McClandliss, reported that the former shop dog of the store, Pepper (full name, Peppercorn Jack), was hit by a car on Tuesday and died.
Pepper belonged to Bob Scheidt, former owner of the hardware store before selling the business.
A sign on the door warned customers, ‘Please don’t pet our dog. He’s blind, and might give you a nip.’

Sorry to hear about the loss of Pepper. I have always thought he was something that added to he hometown feel of the hardware store. Not a lot of places that you find a dog greeting folks and being a part of the place.

Our condolences to Bob. Pepper was a great dog and we always enjoyed watching Bob take him for a walk on Greenwood. Their style was unique. They made a “great” team.
