A Pizza Story (7278 Manchester Road) plans on serving lunch, along with dinner, within the next couple weeks. Look for sidewalk seating soon. The new manager comes from eight years at Schlafly Tap Room and is a self-professed beer nerd.
Go to Las Palmas (7356 Manchester Road) to watch the World Cup in Spanish with a bar tender (Alberto) wearing a Mexican team jersey. He was happy for Mexico to hold Brazil to 0-0 on Tuesday.
Foundation Grounds’ back door and steps are in place, as it expands into the space next door. Framing is going up on the inside.
Work has begun on the interior of the Cellar (7373 Marietta Avenue), a beer tasting room. County paperwork was the holdup. The owner, head brewer at Perennial Artisan Ales, got his liquor license for the location from city hall in March.
Great Harvest Bread Company ( 7360 Manchester Road) now has a peanut butter and jelly bar to make your own sandwich, as well as chicken vegetable soup made with vegetables from a local garden and home made noodles. Along with La Cosecha, which shares the space, they have the OK for sidewalk seating.
Strange Donuts’ new look, from the previous black, to a Mid-century blue look, is progressing.
Roots Antiques will celebrate one year at its new location on Maplewood’s Let Them Eat Art, on July 11.
The Retail Confectioners International convention meets in St. Louis June 16-20, and Kakao Chocolate (7272 Manchester) is taking part. Three buses of conventioners are scheduled to visit Maplewood on Friday.
