The corner space at Manchester and Sutton, most recently Live Juke Joint Piano Bar, will be subdivided with an entrance added at Sutton. A two-man team with impressive credentials plan to open a restaurant there in spring/summer.

Chris Kelling, former dining room manager of The Restaurant at Meadowood in Napa Valley, and Adam Altnether, former chef for the St. Louis Cardinals and Gerard Craft’s Niche and Pastaria, have announced their new restaurant, Elmwood.

Altnether told Sauce Magazine: “It’s going to be a modern American bistro with some global influences. We definitely want to be approachable for everyone who might walk in the door, whether that’s grabbing a burger and beer at the bar after work or celebrating an anniversary.”

  1. Best of luck! Dividing that space makes sense. I’m curious why the name, “Elmwood”? in Maplewood? I feel as though I am really dense here and missing something obvious.

  2. Looks great! Sutton has a lovely angle for evening sunlight – those window seats look very well-placed! Could be a great bit of outdoor seating too if the sidewalks were more roomy! I would love it if the ‘glass curtain’ were full-length windows.

  3. Dividing that large space is a smart solution to the problem of repeated failed businesses since Jive and Wail. The concept sounds like a great fit for Maplewood and the people involved seem to have the chops to pull it off. I’m excited about this and look forward to eating there next year.

  4. Wow. Like the attitude of some of our good citizens here. Like i said before. Got a better idea. Put what ever you want in that space so it isn’t empty.

  5. These guys are the real deal.. super excited to get professionals in that space.. we will be walking there for dinner often.. Can’t wait to see what they do with the space.
