Brentwood head football coach Keith Herring said he's concerned about low turnout this year.

Brentwood head football coach, Keith Herring came right out with his main concern Thursday at the team’s mini camp at the Mt. Calvary field: low numbers.

The Eagles’ four-day, non-contact camp prepares the team to hit the ground running on August 4, the first day high school teams can practice for the fall season.

There were a few more than 20 players on the field Thursday.

“There’s a couple kids we expect to come out, but for the most part, it kind of perplexing to see the numbers down so much,” Herring said.

He said he’s heard that numbers are down at other schools, too. He hopes he’s not losing players to soccer.

Herring said last year’s team was heavy with seniors. This year it’s seven.

“Seven is a good number for us,” he said. “We’re kind of light on our juniors; lots of sophomores, lots of freshmen out there.” He said a lot of sophomores will be playing.

The team has been lifting weights fours days a week, and doing 7-on-7 and a team night once a week.

Brentwood opens the season with Crystal City at home. Last year Brentwood started the season at Crystal City and won 41-0.
