It’s not a stretch so say lots of folks have been waiting not so patiently for Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken to open in Maplewood (7434 Manchester Road).
Though co-owner Jim Zimmermann (with his wife, Jane) wouldn’t go on record with a soft opening date, he said Wednesday by email that the kitchen equipment had been unloaded, and Thursday it would begin to be installed.
Swag lamps and a ceiling fan will be installed in the dining room, but the floor will remain concrete. He said job candidates will be interviewed Friday and Saturday at the restaurant.
“We need to finish the counter, put the railing around the patio, finish the tile work behind the bar, and put in the POS (point of sale) system,” Zimmermann said.
He said it’s been “maddening” answering all the questions when the restaurant will open.
