At two separate meetings, Brentwood officials are set to OK an ordinance to clarify the city’s current prohibition of short term rentals (Airbnb rentals are among the most popular), and at another to discuss allowing them.

At the April 2 board of alderman meeting, officials plan to conduct the first reading and hold a public hearing for an ordinance that would prohibit short term rentals in the city. A second reading of the ordinance is expected for the April 16 board meeting. The law would would be amended to prohibit short-term rentals, boardinghouses, Bed and Breakfast, hotels, and similar facilities, according to the city.

In addition, the planning and zoning commission has drafted an ordinance to amend zoning regulations to permit short-term rentals in all residential zoning districts and the Urban Development District. The ordinance drafted to regulate short-term rentals will be discussed by the commission’s sub-committee meeting on March 28. If the commission votes on this ordinance it would be forwarded to the board of aldermen for consideration.
