On Sunday, August 17, the students and parishioners of Saint Mary Magdalen celebrated the start of the new school year by attending a special Backpack Blessing during the 9:30 a.m. Mass, the school reported in a press release.
Father Jack Siefert gave the students a special blessing and then proceeded to bless a crucifix for each student to attach to their backpack, put in their backpack or put in their pocket to take God with them each day.
“Father explained that we bring a backpack with the things we need for school or work and we need to remember each day that we need God in our lives to help us and protect us,” according to the school press release.
My Godson with D.S. and I went to that Mass. Father Jack is so in tune with the spiritual needs of our parish. Godson doesn’t go to SMM, but he got a cross and hung onto it like it was gold to a miser. What a wonderful Mass and blessing.
