Wednesday night presidential candidate Bernie Sanders broadcast an online live feed to tens of thousands at gatherings around the country, according to ABC News — 28 of those were at Stone Spiral Coffee in Maplewood.
Sanders said the grass roots organizing event went out to 100,000 people in 3,500 locations in every state in the country, though ABC News said those numbers couldn’t be verified.
Update: Local organizer Alex Patino said the meeting went beyond his expectations.
“When I organized the event on Sanders website, I thought I would be lucky to have a dozen people turnout, and that I was reaching by setting the limit at twenty. But the invite list filled up in less than 72 hours. So now I had to find a space large enough. Stone Spiral agreed to help us host, yet I knew the space would be tight, but they did an amazing job accommodating us. It was a perfect space for Bernie Sanders supporters!
“I wish I could have found a larger venue since I feel many more would have RSVP’d if they could have. I am definitely looking for such a venue for next time.
“We were part of the live stream, and I gave a short presentation before he spoke (based entirely on my views) showing why I believe Sanders can be elected. I received very positive feedback and increased my enthusiasm for Bernie. After the webmaster we had a great discussion on how to continue to build support for Sanders.
Lauren Schorr, a manager at Stone Spiral, said usually about half the number of people reserved show up. This time the shop was reserved for 20 and 28 came.

Maplewood, MO flyering event [Nov 1st]
We are going to meet at Foundation Grounds at 10:00 am on November 1st. Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather and wear your Bernie gear! The plan is to work the special business district handing out flyers and get cars passing by to honk. Depending on the foot and car traffic we may move on to go door to door flyering. If we do go door to door you can simply leave a flyer at the house or you can interact with the home owners. Whatever you are comfortable with.
Please make signs and be sure to wear your Bernie gear! Maplewood is a great city and I think the residents deserve to know about Bernie Sanders so they can make an informed decision on March 15th.

Update:
Don’t forget about daylight savings (fall back)!
I will have plenty of flyers to pass out but we need big signs to engage people driving by.
