Two days after Maplewood Richmond Heights baseball defeated Brentwood in the Class 3 District 4 baseball championship for the second year in a row, the Blue Devils fell to West County High School in sectional play.
MRH Coach Jonathan Webb said the Bulldogs did to the MRH what they did to Hancock and Brentwood last week. The result was a 11-0 loss and the end of the road for the Blue Devils. He said MRH was in a hole early.
The Bulldogs collected a total of 14 hits, including three home runs, a triple and two doubles, according to the Leadwood Daily Journal.
“We didn’t play a complete ball game today, and to their credit they could hit, and they put us in a bad spot,” Webb said.
He said MRH had opportunities offensively, but didn’t cash in, and made too many mistakes — “mistakes that you can’t afford to make when you’re trying to play this level of baseball,” he said.

MRH had five hits, but four outs on bases. “You’re going to have a pretty hard time getting offense going when you make outs on bases,” Webb said.
The Blue Devils got hits from Chris Tronicek, Biship, Gabe Jackson, Michael Langston and Matt Green.
Drew Curtis was the starting pitcher and took the loss, going two and a third innings. Zech Biship came in for two and two thirds, and Dan Williams relieved in the sixth.
Webb said the team’s district championship wasn’t on their minds on Monday, but there’s a lot to take away from back-to-back district titles.
“To beat a program like Brentwood that had our number for so long – to do that two years in a row and to be the first team that’s ever done that two years in a row at Maplewood—that’s noteworthy for sure,” he said.
He said the three seniors—Zech Biship, Zach Siebert and Dan Williams—set the tone for the guys coming up.
“We have guys that can really keep this program moving forward,” Webb said. “We focus on this being a program and not a team.”
