Maplewood resident Bob Weidenbenner kicked off his trash-a-thon to benefit Joe’s Place, and Cornerstone Center in the Shaw neighborhood last July. He’s raised more than $2500 for the charities so far he reports in an update.
Bob’s complete report:
Just wanted to update and inform folks about how the trash-a-thon is going. I’m picking up litter in the neighborhood for a year and asked for sponsors from the neighborhood to donate to two local charities, Joe’s Place here in Maplewood and Cornerstone Center in the Shaw neighborhood.
I’m happy to announce that over $2500 has been raised so far and am very thankful to everyone who sponsored. A special thank you to Julia Schaffner at Joe’s Place and Dawn Russell and Dani Smith at Cornerstone for their help and to the guys at Scheidt Hardware for keeping me supplied with a picking stick. If anyone would like to start a trash-a-thon of their own, or just keep their block clean, there are 3 free pick sticks waiting at Scheidt hardware. Just tell them you read about it here.
I still have 3 and 1/2 months to go, so there is still time to sponsor! If you’d like more information on the trash-a-thon go to Joe’s Place newsletter on-line. http://joesplacestl.org/2020/1
Also if anyone on the 7300 block of Flora is missing a catch-all compartment from their car that had a bunch of Halloween charms, sports medals (volleyball and softball) and other odds and ins in it, let me know and I’ll get it back to you.
Thanks again, Bob Weidenbenner
I have seen Bob walking around on my block picking up trash. I just figured he was tired of being housebound by the pandemic and looking for a form of exercise and was picking up the trash as he walked. I have said hello to him on a couple of occasions but will now have to tell him hello and how much I appreciate him doing this for our community. I might have to join him for a bit also or pick my own area to patrol.
