The Brentwood Board of Aldermen meeting scheduled for Monday lasted long enough for Mayor Chris Thornton to announce a quorum of aldermen wouldn’t be present, and there would be no meeting.
He said he received a text earlier in the day that one of the aldermen couldn’t attend. Another was on vacation — that was known. Another texted early in the morning he would not be able to attend. Another texted shortly before the meeting — had a sick family member to attend to. And as the meeting was about to begin, Alderman Lochmoeller received a text from another alderman that she had an accident and would not be able to attend.
“Without five aldermen we do not have a quorum, and can not conduct city business,” Thornton said.
See the meeting agenda, from the city website. A YouTube of Thornton’s announcement is also on the city website.
I think it is sad that an Alderman 1) texts another to say they are unable to attend. Why can you not contact the city administrator or the mayor himself?
2). If you were really in an accident it does not sound like it happened on your way out the door! A little suspicious on his/her part.
Probably the most productive meeting in a long time.
Good observation!
