S. Brentwood Boulevard’s rough condition was top of the list in last week’s St. Louis Post-Dispatch conversation with county and state roads and highways representatives. Some steel plates on Clayton Road were explained too.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch called Brentwood Boulevard “the worst road in America” (tongue in cheek).

David Wrone of the St. Louis County Department of Transportation told the Post-Dispatch that work will begin on Brentwood from Marshall Avenue to Eager Road within two or three weeks.

Wrone told 40 South News in May that work on Brentwood couldn’t begin until the water company was finished with its work, and resurfacing may not be complete until spring 2016.

Wrone also told the Post-Dispatch why steel plates have been in the middle of Clayton Road east of Big Bend for more than a year. He said there’s a water leak under the road that neither St. Louis nor Missouri American Water can find.

Until the source of the leak can be found and the leak fixed, the excavated hole on Clayton can’t be filled and the pavement restored. The hole itself is constantly awash in water from the mystery leak and therefore can’t be filled—concrete doesn’t set when immersed in water,” Wrone said.

Also, St. Louis County has provided a update on Brentwood Boulevard for the week of June 22, which the city posted on its website:

1. Q: Is a preconstruction meeting set? When is Notice to Proceed for the St. Louis County projected anticipated to be granted?
A: The preconstruction meeting will be held this week. City of Brentwood representatives have been invited to attend. The Notice to Proceed date will be set at the preconstruction meeting.

2. Q: Has the recent and forecasted weather altered the current work being done by Missouri American Water Company? What is their current schedule in completing their restoration?

A: Repairs to the inside northbound & southbound lanes, begin repairs to the outside southbound lane, and repairs to side-street intersections.

4. Q: What are the temporary road closures anticipated for next week?

A: Repairs to the inside northbound and southbound lanes.

6. Q: What is the next phase of the project and what types of impacts can be expected?
