With Maplewood Richmond Heights playing for the first time last year as an independent in basketball, Brentwood (17-9) controlled the South Central Athletic Association conference, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
This year the Eagles will depend on seven seniors and three returning starters, the Post-Dispatch reports. Among them:
- Will Erby (5-9) averaged 15 points a game last season.
- Marc Powells (6-3) averaged 12 points a game.
- Roland Floyd (6-2)
- Justice Bratcher (6-1)
- Xavier Bratcher (6-3)
- Jack Wright (6-4)
- De Smet transfer Josh Mareno (6-2)
Coach Brad Kern said this is the largest team he’s ever had, and the Post-Dispatch says the team has experience and depth, “which bode well if the Eagles are going to make a late-season run.”
Standing in the Eagles’ way could be the Bayless Bronchos. The team has had academic eligibility issues in the past, but word is that they’re full strength for now.
Seniors Edin Mehmedovic (6-5) and Patrick Triplett (6-4) both played in the Bronchos’ first game, scoring 19 and 15, respectively.
