Brentwood football coach for 27 years, Bob Penn, will be inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in January. The 2014 inductees were announced in November.
Penn spent his entire teaching and coaching career at Brentwood. He was a teacher from 1967 through 1982, then an assistant principal for the last 12 years of his tenure.
He served as Brentwood’s assistant football coach for six years before being named head coach in 1974, a position he held for the next 27 years, according to the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
Penn’s head coaching record stands at a lop-sided 168 – 81 – 2, his overall coaching record is equally impressive at 227 – 97 – 2. He was named the Sporting News Missouri Coach of the Year in 1987 and has served as president of both the St. Louis Metropolitan Coaches Association and the Missouri Football Coaches Association.
He was named to the Missouri Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2001.
The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in ceremonies will take place on Jan. 26 at the University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center in Springfield, MO.
That’s a well deserved honor for Bob Penn!!! Bob would not have won that much without his shadow/sidekick Coach Jim Taylor! Every Batman needs a Robin… Just saying defense wins games & together the chemistry of those two dominated their conference and district for decades!!! If u ever get a chance to watch some of jack sadlers old video tapes at the BHS library u could see how innovative/creative and ahead of their time those guys really were using motion, shotgun, full house, and etc. they always knew the strengths n weaknesses of their teams and they really coached their players up! Congratulations to Bob Penn for this great honor!
