Brentwood police and fire departments on Saturday sponsored the fourth annual barbecue to benefit The Backstoppers, a St. Louis-based organization. Brentwood Police Officer Craig Eisenbeis and Brentwood Firefighter Capt. Rick Kerr organized the event, according to Chief of Police Dan Fitzgerald.
Within hours of the death of a police officer, firefighter, publicly-funded paramedic or EMT his or her family receives a check for $5,000 from The BackStoppers, with assurance of further help, according to The Backstoppers website.
