At the Sept. 15 Brentwood Board of Aldermen meeting, officials tabled an ordinance to change street signs that warn, ‘Slow Children’ to ‘Play Street.’
‘Slow Children’ signs are on Hatton Lane; and White, Sonora and Lawn avenues. City Administrator Bola Akande said in the meeting that the wording conflicts with a state statue that calls such a street a ‘play street.’
The Public Safety Committee took it up at its Nov. 20 meeting and voted unanimously against the bill’s adoption.
The committee is recommending that the board of aldermen remove the bill from the Dec. 1 agenda, according to the agenda notes publicized on the city website. The bill, number 5904, is listed as on hold.
The notes state Chief of Police Dan Fitzgerald has purchased 30 “DRIVE LIKE YOUR KIDS LIVE HERE” signs to distribute to residents, which he plans to publicize in December.
Drive like your kids live here … great slogan. The shame of it all –> the speed limit is 20 unless not posted .. then I believe it lowers to 10-15 mph. People [usually just cutting through our streets] need to slow down. And completely stop at the STOP signs…behind the white line, Then proceed with caution after checking for other cars and pedestrians/cyclists. That would not cost the city a dime .. if people just obeyed the law. Working towards Utopia :)(:
I just saw these “Drive like your kids live here” signs first time today. Can we get one for Mari Kay court? The neighbor drivers are good, but lately resident’s company and or contractors tear through here like it wasn’t a short circle drive. Zoooooooooooooooooooooooooooom. I don’t want to be a bad neighbor. But one guy repeatedly went so fast toward the circle, I stood in the middle of the street to force him to slow down. And that is just him. There are others. It gets dark early, and people just don’t think.
Chief Fitzgerald is a good leader.
