A Brentwood resident emailed 40 South that he is dismayed to find out that basketball courts are replacing some of the tennis courts in Hanley park. The Brentwood Parks master plan called for those tennis courts to be upgraded, he said.
“The existing tennis courts get a lot of use, even though they are in very poor shape. In contradiction to that, there is a basketball hoop in Oak Tree park that very rarely gets used. If the tennis courts are redone, as called for in the master plan, they would get a lot more use and be of great value to the community,” he said.
He added that bid selection beings October 1 and the project won’t be completed until winter so there is plenty of time to bring back the original plan and have tennis courts installed.
He included the following city contact information for anyone who would like to see tennis courts in Hanley Park.
- Eric Gruenenfelder – Recreation Director – [email protected] – 314-963-8681
- Bola Akande – City Administrator – [email protected] – 314-963-8608
- David Dimmitt – Mayor – [email protected] – 314.963.8601

you say “some”, will there still be a tennis court?
Because it’s a single basketball hoop not in a court but in a parking lot.
