Starbucks wants to share a new building with Reliance Bank in Des Peres on Manchester Road, and about 50 residents protested the move at a meeting at Des Peres City Hall on March 9. Traffic is the concern; the new development was negatively compared to the Brentwood location, according to the Webster-Kirkwood Times.
A consultant with Crawford Bunte Brammeier (CBB) said traffic will increase by 5 percent.
An attorney representing Reliance Bank said bank officials wanted to address residents’ concerns. He said the CBB report showed that the Starbucks would not negatively impact traffic.
The project includes an 8-foot buffer fence and 40-foot sound wall.
A resident compared the proposed Starbucks to the one on Brentwood Boulevard. She said customers park on nearby streets and leave trash.
“I stood in one resident’s yard and could hear people ordering in the drive-thru,” she said, according to the Webster-Kirkwood Times. “Is this what I’m going to have to live with?” she said.
The attorney said the Brentwood location is only .37 acres while the new site is 1.2, and Brentwood has 12 parking spaces and the proposed site has 42.
The board tabled the motion after a three-hour meeting.
