In about four months, the former Del Taco location at 1033 McCausland is set to be the Hi-Pointe Drive In, a fast casual burger and sandwich shop, according to St. Louis Magazine. It’s a project of the Sugarfire Smoke House owners.

At the requests of the neighborhood it won’t be a drive-thu — the restaurant will be for dine-in, pick-up and delivery only.

Meats will be roasted in-house. The menu will include sandwiches, fries, and flat-griddled burgers. Beer and wine will be available.

The 45-50 seat building will be constructed from old shipping containers. A covered patio will be part of the design.

According to nextSTL, the site is near several big investments: the Hi-Pointe Theatre  renovation and the Powers Insurance Agency — building a new office across the street. The nearby intersection of I-64/40, Clayton Road, McCausland and other streets is being remade for the first time in a half a century.

This remains of the former Del Taco. A building made of recycled shipping containers will go up.
