A man is in a cell in the St. Louis County Justice Service Center for trying to steal approximately $3 in quarters from a Maplewood business, police said Friday. He’s being held on a $25,000 bond.
The defendant, Jimmie Tucker, 46, of Sedalia, MO, is accused of breaking into Bolyard’s Meat & Provisions (2810 Sutton Boulevard) Thursday night around midnight.
Owner, Chris Bolyard, said a planter near the parking lot was used to break through the glass back door. Maplewood Police Sgt. Matt Nighbor said some alert citizens heard the noise and notified police. He said when officers arrived they found the suspect in the business and were able to take him into custody.
Warrants were issued for second degree burglary and property damage.
Update: A Maplewood resident said he was walking his German Shepherd past Bolyard’s and saw the suspect leave the shop through the broken door, and run around the back. The suspect came back to the front, saw the German Shepherd, and surrendered, with Maplewood Police there to arrest him. The resident said his dog would have “licked him to death,” at worst.
