Tuesday’s thaw from minus zero temperatures into the 20s caused trouble when water pipes started breaking.

The southbound lanes of Hanley Road at Litzsinger were closed at the evening rush hour Tuesday due to a broken main. See a KPLR video of the break.

A pipe break Wednesday morning closed Maplewood Richmond Heights Elementary, following two days of no school due to the cold and snow. All other MRH schools were back in session Wednesday.

The owner of the Southwest Diner (6803 Southwest Avenue) was up at 5 a.m. Wednesday to mop floors when a pipe broke in the apartment above the diner. Owner Jonathan Jones still was able to open for breakfast.

The Heights Recreation Center also closed its doors due to a burst water pipe Tuesday evening.  The center reopened at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
