Car stolen while running, marijuana arrest: police

The following information was reported by the Maplewood Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Monday, Jan. 18

  • Police were dispatched to the 2100 block of Bellevue Avenue for stolen auto report. Through investigation police learned that the victim had left the vehicle unattended with the key in the ignition while attempting to warm it up. While doing so, the vehicle was stolen. UPDATE: Later this same date Maplewood Police was contacted by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department who advised that the stolen vehicle had been located.

Tuesday, Jan. 19

  • A traffic stop was conducted in the area of St. Elmo at Commonwealth Avenue. As a result of the stop police located a misdemeanor amount of what is believed to be raw marijuana inside the vehicle. The driver was issued summonses for the traffic offense along with possession of marijuana under 35-grams.

Wednesday, Jan. 20

  • Police began an investigation for a fraud that occurred on Jan. 19 at an address in the 2800 block of Laclede Station Road. This investigation is ongoing.

Thursday, Jan. 21

  • Police arrested an adult male suspect following a theft from a Maplewood Commons business. The suspect was found to have approximately $61 worth of stolen clothing items.

Friday, Jan. 22

  • Police were dispatched to a business located on Sunnen Drive for a property damage report. Through investigation, police learned that the rear window of the victim’s vehicle had been damaged at some point during the nighttime hours. This investigation is ongoing.
