A little more than a year after the McDonald’s restaurant near Deer Creek Center closed, on July 15, 2014 — with one day notice to employees, the store was demolished. The property is actually in Webster Groves — the city’s planning and zoning department said McDonald’s has no current plans to develop or sell the lot.
Maplewood resident Anne Arias (@anneebarias) posted this photo on Twitter Monday morning, with the comment, “Farewell McDonald’s! Spent lots of fun rainy days in the playroom when the kids were little.” It was a rainy day on Monday, the day it was demolished.
Another Maplewood resident, Robert Chandler, sent this photo of McDonald’s coming down.
McDonald’s representatives met with resistance when they met with Maplewood residents in December 2014 about a proposed new location at Manchester and Big Bend, where Schaefer Shell is now. They have never presented a plan at Maplewood planning and zoning, which would be the next step if they want to build a new location there. See also: Site plans for proposed Maplewood McDonald’s
The property is partially in Maplewood and partially in Webster Groves, and was registered to do business in Webster Groves.
I think the site would make a great location for an entry park to the great rivers greenway.
Doug,
Any idea what might happen to the site? Can it be redeveloped with its proximity to deer creek?
