A group of college and university dining facilities professionals from across the country are meeting for customer service training at the Ritz Carlton in Clayton this week.
The group of about 30 were wandering through Trader Joe’s, in Brentwood Promenade Tuesday afternoon.
A member of the group, the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS), said Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods are known for superior customer service, so they were there to observe.
Fernando Luis, from the University of California, Santa Cruz, said he likes the interaction with the bells in the checkout area, and also how the store treats kids.
“They take care of them,” he said. “They give them the little cart, so that’s a good thing.”
Coming out of the store, a group of them asked directions to the nearest Starbucks, and were sent to the Starbucks in Target, across the parking lot.
