The Maplewood coffee house and café, Foundation Grounds, changed ownership at the beginning of April.
The new owner, Neil Suthar, met with 40 South News Wednesday morning at the shop with a prepared statement. He said more information will follow. He also declined to have his photo taken — he said he’d prefer to have one of the entire staff, also later.
This is Suthar’s statement:
Foundation Grounds continues on as the premier coffee house and café in Maplewood as ownership changes hands. Neil Suthar, a St. Louis native, is excited at the opportunity to continue the time-honored culture and traditions that have made Foundation Grounds one of the top choices for coffee, pastries, fresh juice and specialty menu options.
“We value and embrace the unique culture that has been developed over the years and served customers from all walks of life with Love and Gratitude,” Suthar said. “Our immediate focus is an effortless transition that allows us to continue serving our patrons with the same standard of customer service. We are extremely grateful for the continued support of our customers, the Maplewood community and our outstanding staff during this time. We treasure what founders Pedro and Laura have created, and look forward to growing with the community.
Former co-owner Pedro Abbate has been reached for a comment, which he said he will provide.

Just wondering why the new owner would hide? Pedro and Laura were so involved in Maplewood. Looks like maplewood is losing another great spot.
Love & Gratitude to Laura and Pedro for establishing such a great place, and best wishes to the new ownership!
