The Ryan Hummert Hummert Memorial, in Ryan Hummert Memorial Park, is set to be dedicated next week. The sculpture, a likeness of Hummert, should be in place on the memorial at that time.
The dedication is scheduled for July 21 at 6:30 p.m. The date will be the eighth anniversary of when 22-year-old Ryan Hummert was shot by a sniper on his first call as a Maplewood firefighter.
The monument’s cost, passed by city council in March 2015, is not to exceed $334,471. Private donations currently cover 33 to 40 percent of the cost; the city paid the rest. Donations continue to come in to offset the cost to the city.
