Planning, not digging on closed Southwest Avenue: MSD

Residents and motorists in the Ellendale neighborhood told KMOV they aren’t seeing Metropolitan Sewer District workers on Southwest Avenue, between Lowry and McCausland, where sewer work is supposed be coming along.

MSD closed the road to traffic both directions on April 6 to install a new sewer line to serve Maplewood, Richmond Heights and St. Louis.  But some in the area say they are not seeing any workers.

“I come to this gas station every day, sometimes I walk through down there because there’s little sidewalk. I never see anyone out there. Never,” driver Abigail Dotson told KMOV.

“I imagine when it rains, they can’t work with the tools and the equipment and all that. There’s also been a lot of time and I’ve noticed there just aren’t people working,” a resident told KMOV.

A 40 South News reader and Maplewood resident said he agrees.

However, MSD told KMOV crews are working.

“If you don’t see anybody on the street, digging, they don’t think they’re working. That’s not what’s going on. A lot of planning goes into a project like this,” Sean Hadley with MSD said.
