Olympian Jackie Joyner Kersee and local, state and federal representatives in nutrition and physical activity will gather Wednesday at the Maplewood Richmond Heights High School Research and Design Center to acknowledge the district’s commitment to nutrition and physical activity.
The summit at MRH will showcase the district’s successes and share how community groups can leverage federal and state resources to enhance their efforts.
Maplewood had initiated more nutritious menus, school gardens, increased physical activity and programs to teach about nutrition, sustainability and the origins of food long before the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act was signed into law, according to a district representative.
Among the approximately 50 participants, in addition to Kersee, will be Karen Wooton, a coordinator with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; Darlene Barnes, regional administrator for the USDA Food and Nutrition Service Mountain Plains Region; and Karen Hall, Maplewood Richmond Heights School District superintendent.
The group will learn about the MRH programs and tour the school before lunch and a roundtable discussion.
Way to go, Maplewood!!!
