On Sept. 7, according to a Brentwood police report obtained from the county prosecutor’s office, a 23-year-old Fenton man stole a 1997 Chevy S-10 truck from the Brentwood Home Depot lot. He was charged with stealing a vehicle.
The victim said his truck had been stolen while he was working in the store. He told police he accidentally left the key in the truck. The truck was recovered the following morning in western Kansas — the defendant was with the truck.
The defendant confessed to stealing the truck when questioned by Brentwood police when he was returned to Missouri. He said he had been walking through the lot and noticed the keys in the truck. He said he thought it was “a sign from the heavens.” He got in the truck, and after driving around St. Louis for a while decided to drive to Denver, Colorado. He was arrested in Kansas after running out of gas.
On Sept. 11 a 30-year-old St. Louis man selected two 5-gallon buckets of paint and took them to customer service and returned them for $300, even though he hadn’t bought them. He was apprehended outside. He was charged with third degree stealing.
On Oct. 4 a 33-year-old St. Louis woman forcibly stole cash from the Target Starbucks in the Promenade, threatening the cashier, saying she had a hidden weapon. She was charged with first degree robbery.
