The deadline to turn in signed petitions to Maplewood City Hall to run for office in Maplewood was last week. On the ballot in April, there will be one candidate for each open ward seat and two for mayor, according to City Clerk Karen Scheidt.

Running for mayor of Maplewood are current Ward 3 council member Barry Greenberg, and Patrick Jugo.

Steven Mosley is running for the Ward 1 council seat. Andrew Bolin had announced he would run but pulled out.

Ward 1 council member David Cerven’s term will expire in April 2017, and he’s not running to keep it.

Ray Crader is the only candidate for Ward 2. Current council member Fred Wolf is not running.

Shawn Faulkingham is running in Ward 3 as the incumbent, and is not being contested.

  1. Doug, do you know Barry’s view on eminent domain? I remember that he was for the City of Maplewood taking over the properties on the corner of Sutton and Manchester (under eminent domain) for redevelopment. Has he changed his views?

  2. Does Barry Greenberg get his spot back on the council if he loses the election?
It looks like each Ward is only going to have one councilperson per Ward with the exception of Ward 1 with Karen Wood.

    • Each ward has two council seats. Just one of the seats in each ward is up for election. Barry’s seat isn’t up for election and he’ll remain as councilman if he loses the mayoral election. If he wins his council seats will need to be filled. How’s that happen? I’ll look into that.

      • Doug- if Barry wins, there is a special election that must then be held. So the entire process would take place again for Ward 3. Not sure how condensed the process would be though.
