According to police and court records, Kyle Andrew Midyett, 26, of south St. Louis County, tried to cash a forged check for $90 at the First Community Credit Union in the Maplewood Walmart on June 10 at about 2 p.m.
A teller because suspicious when he noticed that the check had a thumbprint on it as well as a Missouri driver’s license number date handwritten on the top, together with a code indicating that there had been an attempt to cash the check at another First Community branch.
He also saw that the signature on the check did not match the signature on file for the account holder. When the teller was unable to contact the account holder to verify the check he called Maplewood police instead. The police contacted the account holder (Midyett’s father) who said the check was a forgery. Midyett was arrested at the scene. He insisted that his father had given him the check so he could buy food or lodging. He denied forging his father’s signature but would not say who had signed the check.
Midyett was held on a $10,000 bond.
