A man hit a Metro bus driver in the face Tuesday around 5:21 p.m. in the Maplewood Metro loop, resulting in the driver going over the curb and hitting a bus shelter, according to Maplewood Police.
The suspect left the bus after the collision, according to a witness; police canvased the area but couldn’t find him.
Metro spokeswoman Patti Beck told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch the driver was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond Heights for treatment. There were no other injuries; the shelter wasn’t in use when it was hit.
Maplewood Police Detective Sgt. Matt Nighbor said the suspect appeared to be the only one on the bus other than the driver. He said they don’t know why the man attacked the driver.
He said they will review video surveillance taken on the bus to try to learn more.
