Carlandis Franklin, 21, of St. Louis, has been charged with stealing over $500 from Sports Authority in Brentwood, and is being held on a $5,000 bond, according to police and court records.

Employees of the Sports Authority store in Brentwood, on Jan. 2, discovered that an iPod, valued at $650, had been stolen from a shopping cart.

A store employee had set the iPod down in the cart before going to another part of the store, and when he returned 10 minutes later the iPod was gone. Security video showed two people in the vicinity of the cart just before the theft was discovered. One of them was seen taking the iPod from the cart and then leaving the store.

Franklin was arrested two days later when he returned to the store and was recognized from the video of the theft. He admitted to police that he had been at the store at the time of the theft but denied stealing the iPod. He claimed to have been there looking for shoes, but claimed he could not find his size, and that he spent about 10 minutes in the store. The video showed that he was only in the store for two minutes and 16 seconds, and that he never entered the shoe section.
