Orvelle Hughes III, 30, of University City, was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a weapon after he pulled a loaded handgun from his waistband Saturday at the Maplewood Commons parking lot, according to Maplewood Police, who responded to a call for a reported flourishing of a handgun.
When police arrived, two victims said Hughes had backed into a parking space as they were leaving their vehicle. One of them had told Hughes to be more careful while his window was rolled down, and Hughes responded with a comment.
When Hughes got out of his car he lifted up his shirt and removed a handgun from his waistband in a threatening manner. He yelled at one of the victims and then put the handgun back into his waistband and walked away.
Police found Hughes and discovered he had a loaded firearm, and arrested him.
Hughes was charged through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Bond was set at $10,000.
A 25-year-old woman accompanying Hughes was also arrested on charges of 3rd degree assault on an enforcement officer, failure to comply and resisting arrest.
