Maplewood artist, Genevieve Esson, painted four of the STL250 ‘Cakeway to the West’ cakes that celebrated St. Louis’ 250th birthday in 2014.
Her cakes were at The Missouri Botanical Garden at Ridgeway Center, The Compton Hill Water Tower in St. Louis, Lincoln Douglas Square in Alton and the Payne Gentry House in Bridgeton.
The Payne Gentry House and Compton Hill Water Tower will keep their cakes. Alton gifted the Lincoln Douglas cake to Esson.
The cake in front of the Missouri Botanical Garden, sold for $770 in auction, which ended on New Years Eve. Proceeds from the sale of the cakes will go to the 1764 Society to create Founders Plaza, around a statue of Pierre Laclede, which sits in front of City Hall.
Esson is a 1986 Webster University graduate. Her work is collected nationally and internationally.
It seems that bidding has already ended. Oh well.
