Maplewood’s Side Project Cellar ( 7373 Marietta Avenue) has been chosen as one of only 26 locations in the United States (the only in Missouri) and 66 worldwide for a celebration of beer called Zwanze Day.
On Zwanze Day — Saturday, September 19 this year — at each previously designated location, a keg of Zwanze beer is tapped at the exact same time for a Zwanze toast. The tapping time in Maplewood is 2 p.m.
According to online sources, “Zwanze” is Flemish for a joke. They (Brasserie Cantillon in Brussells) wanted to brew a beer that was fun, and perhaps used non-traditional ingredients. Every year, they change the recipe for the Zwanze beer. This year, the Zwanze keg is a “Wild Brussels Stout.”
The celebration will be at the Sutton Loop Park and on Marietta Avenue, and will include many Maplewood food vendors. Watch for more information to come from the city.
