The Maplewood-based ice cream business, One World Ice Cream, is soon shutting down operations, according to its founder Susan Spitz-Morrison.

Spitz-Morrison, on a whim, she said, early this year applied for a position with Lutheran Hour Ministries, and got the job. She started in early May.

When Spitz-Morrison was interviewing, she was caught in between, she said. She was holding off on trying to get into more locations because she didn’t know she would be able to fulfill them.

“Any way I sliced it I couldn’t—it just takes too much time to do the ice cream business well, because I’m the only employee,” she said. Her business license and state certification were due for renewal in June, so she made the decision to put it all “on ice” for now.

She said Larder & Cupboard (7310 Manchester Road) will carry her ice cream until it runs out, which could be June or July. See also: Maplewood ice cream start-up stands up against competition

Spitz-Morrison said her favorite part of the ice cream business was creating unusual flavors and the positive reactions she got. Strawberry Fields (with Basil), Mokha-Mocha Chip, Chai Tea, Kashmir Vanilla, and Fresh Mint with Cacao Nibs are some of her flavors.

She said she has a freezer, a commercial ice cream maker and some smaller home machines for sale, if anyone is interested. She also said she’d be interested in partnering if someone wants to take over the operations.

  1. So sorry to see Susan stop making ice cream! We hosted One World Ice Cream at The Book House a couple times for events and the ice cream was a big hit. Amazing flavor combinations! Loved the Cardamon Vanilla Spice

  2. One minor correction, the licenses are up for annual “renewal”, not “registration”. They have been in force since I opened last year. I have one person who’s very interested in keeping it going, possibly on the north side of the metro area. So stay tuned!
