Maplewood resident Ann Bouwhuis started Home Away From Home Child Care Center 25 years ago to meet the need in the Sunnen Business Park. Last week Maplewood Mayor Nikylan Knapper recognized Bouwhuis’ successful business with a proclamation.
Mayor Knapper and the council members passed a proclamation declaring Tuesday Sept. 28 2021 as Home Away From Home Child Care Day. Knapper then went to the school on Wednesday and presented Bouwhuis with the proclamation.
Her center is licensed for children six weeks through six years, Bouwhuis told 40 South News in 2015. She integrates the different ages, giving the kids the opportunity to interact, taking advantage of “peer modeling.” She said it’s the way families used to be.
